Sam grew up surrounded by creativity. From his earliest memories, he can remember his mother, a gifted painter coming home covered in paint after a long day in the studio. He would watch his father pace back and forth in the house deep in production as a T.V. commercial director. Being surrounded by so much love and creative energy only propelled Sam to forge his own creative path.

He created One Design Company eleven years ago through as he started a design practice. Since then, it has grown into a full fledged design studio with a few great partners and endless collaborators.

Sam is about to begin the biggest chapter of his life, fatherhood. With unclear challenges that await him, Sam has his parents to thank. They gave him the gift of knowing what growing up in an unconditionally loved home feels like.

What do you wake up thinking about?

How long until my first interaction of the day (outside the house). That sets the tenor for the morning.

What's your morning ritual?

I'm normally right out the door. I tend to stay up later than my wife and then try to sleep as late as I can. I don't like rushing in the morning, and nothing gives me more joy than to wake up naturally. Then it’s the usual: Get dressed, brush my teeth, a nice glass of water, and I'm out the door.

How does social media play into your daily life?

There's no doubt I spend more time on social media than I'd like to. I'm pretty connected to Facebook throughout the day and find myself less connected to the other platforms. I read a lot through aggregators like,, Through all those I feel like I tend to pretty up-to-date, for whatever that is worth.

Are we more connected or disconnected than before?

So much more connected.

What is most important to you in life?

I don’t want to be some guy that lives his life and is so busy that I don’t enjoy it. Every day I get up and more or less get to do what I love with people that I adore. I’ve had the opportunity so far in my life to explore many different parts of the world and the human experience. The more I see the less I know. Now that my life is changing, I’m excited to get to build the same type of environment for my kid that my parents afforded me. But I'm endlessly curious about better understanding how everything works and how we're all connected, all while laughing deeply and enjoying a good meal.
