Deva was named after the Princess of Fiji. She is a singer/songwriter from Hawaii currently living in New York. When she was very young, Deva knew she wanted to sing. She realized that singing was her way to connect with people and it enabled her to channel everything she felt inside. Deva doesn’t run with the herd and that’s the way she prefers live life. At any given moment, she gives the gift of music to those who need their soul revived.

What do you wake up thinking about?

How many more minutes can I stay in bed?

What's your morning ritual?

Shower, breakfast, walk my dog and listen to music.

How does social media play into your daily life?

It is how I communicate with everyone and what I use to know what is going on in the world.

Are we more connected or disconnected than before?

It is my belief that society, in general, is more disconnected as a result of the digital mediums in which we now predominantly communicate. People send texts instead of call or visit with each other. People would rather be picked out of a lineup on a dating site than meet someone in person and actively pursue a connection and real intimacy. Today we can push a button and kill millions of people while getting your coffee served to you and never have to look into the eyes of the people who suffer in the aftermath. We have created alternate realities where we don't have to live in the throws of famine, pollution, genocide and global warming. We can instead watch it on internet sites and news feeds and make ourselves feel better by saying to ourselves " how terrible that is" or " someone should do something about that" and then go back to our western, First World lives. Through this disconnectedness, I believe we are hurtling towards another grave moment in time where people cannot see themselves in the other because their ability for empathy is undeveloped and not valued.

What is most important to you in life?

Love.
